Getting Backlinks May Be Easier Than You Think...

...And Be More Beneficial Than You Think Too

Backlinks are links to your website from other websites. Backlinks are seen as by search engines as popularity votes and count highly towards your ranking in search engine results. Backlinks can also help guests to find you organically as they surf the web. So, naturally, the more backlinks to your website, the better.
Backlinks can help your SEO

There are many ways to get backlinks to your website. You can comment on other people's blogs and leave a link in your signature. (Make sure you're contributing to the conversation, though. Otherwise your comments could be seen as spam.) You could write articles featuring your accommodation's local region, events or attractions and submit them to travel sites or the multitude of online article sites and include links at the bottom of your articles. Social networking sites also give you the opportunity to link to your website.

One other way to get backlinks is to approach local businesses near your accommodation and request a backlink to your website. In return, you may offer to put a link to their website on your website or even promote their business to guests. This approach can be mutually beneficial; not only do you both get backlinks to improve your search engine results but you get exposure to new clientele that you may not otherwise have had through the cross promotion of your businesses!

Businesses You Can Approach For Backlinks

There are many different types of businesses you can approach for a backlink. Here are a few suggestions of local businesses that you can search for and approach to request a backlink to your website:
  • Shopping or fridge stocking service
  • Baby equipment hire service
  • Baby sitters and child-minders
  • Restaurants
  • Hair dressers and beauty salons
  • Local attractions and tour companies
  • Community websites
  • Hire Car agencies
  • Airport transport and shuttle services
  • Spas...
The list really is limited only by your imagination.

Why not set yourself a goal to get at least one backlink a month? Don't be frustrated if you get turned down a few times when requesting a backlink. Backlinks aren't easy to get. If they were, they wouldn't count for as much as they do when it comes to search engine optimisation.

More information on the "why" and "how" of backlinking, as well as tested email templates to use when requesting backlinks, can be found in the chapter "Getting The Word Out" of my eBook, How To Market Your Holiday Accommodation Online.

Good luck!
